  • I was critical last week of the WWE’s plan to turn Jerry “The King” Lawler into the heel announcer of the new Smackdown crew composed of himself, Byron Saxton and Mauro Ranallo. After watching the show again this week, I will admit that at a very minimum, Lawler is very committed to becoming the heel unlike JBL who tends to waffle depending on who is wrestling. Lawler backed the heel and complained about the baby faces doing the same exact stuff a heel had done. Lawler also seemed more engaged than he has in well over a decade. Maybe the WWE pushed the right button on this one.
  • I wanted to do a piece on the main event of UFC Fight Night but they decided to not air the co-main event until 11:28 PM EST. Some of us still work on Martin Luther King Day, UFC. I’m still going to write about the Anthony “Showtime” Pettis vs Eddie Alvarez match. Alvarez ground out a win by pinning Pettis against the cage and taking him down. It wasn’t anything spectacular but it was effective enough for a split decision victory.
  • I live tweeted UFC 195. I felt like Carlos Condit had done more damage to Robbie Lawler and deserved to win the Welterweight Title. The judges felt differently which wasn’t that big of a surprise to me because a challenger generally needs to beat the champion decisively. I bring this up because I thought Dominick Cruz did far less damage to TJ Dillashaw yet Cruz won the Bantamweight Title last night by split decision. I’m as lost by judging as every fan, commentator and promoter.
  • For the twelve people that enjoy my “Almost Live, Definitely Half Assed Review of WWE Raw”, you will have to wait until next week to read one. I will be attending Raw tonight. I will tweet as much as possible from the @stuntgranny Twitter account.
