Kevin’s Blog: Almost Live, Definitely Half Assed Review of Raw

I got my inspiration from Tough Enough

I was glad John Cena mentioned that you need to know that failure is an option in the wrestling business. I think you need to know that about any business. Or as I’ve learned since my divorce, dating. If you’ve read my PWO reviews (please do so if you don’t) part of the reason I heap scorn on Justin LaBar at Wrestlezone.com is because I feel like I failed to make my reviews well enough known. I’ve got to work harder. We did up the coverage in Atlanta for Wrestlemania to show our renewed work ethic. Really, we’ve been doing up our coverage of everything since the beginning of the year. Which leads me to this coverage. I feel like I’ve gotten it to a good place writing wise. Until I get multiple comments about this blog on a weekly basis, this thing is a failure in my eyes. On to the hard work of covering Raw.

Michael Cole gets a ridiculous introduction from Justin Roberts. Cole said on Friday that a newer, better Cole Mine was being built. He needs to talk to his contractors because they’re too slow. Cena comes to the ring. He wants to gain the WWE Championship to make his match with the Rock bigger. Orton wants his shot at the title first since he won at Wrestlemania. John Morrison gets a chance to shine. My boy has his own shirt. Ziggler still isn’t talking for himself.  Oh, he does speak. What the hell is R-Truth doing out there? His promo was terrible. I can’t believe Cole isn’t obligated to say he bought his iPAD at Kmart. A Royal Rumble style gaunlet match is invented. What, Edge has an announcement? Must have missed that “rumor” on the internet. Let’s check now.

Jeremy just wet himself. Maybe even crapped in his pants. He finally gets a Kong promo. Don’t they need to make the Women’s Division mean something? Eve beating Twin Magic isn’t what I had in mind. How weak, marking a twin. Brie Bella winning the title belt is the opposite of anything I had in mind. Are they trying to shit on the division as much as possible before Kong shows up?

Eve is flipping out? Natty & Gail get to bomb because no one has any idea what to do with people who have boobies. Sin Cara takes on Primo. Glad to see the WWE botch up the mystery of his ring intro by showing the trampoline that he uses. The crowd is going crazy over the high flying offense. Does this put Bourne in any hot water? I’m not sure Vince knows how to utilize more than one (Rey) popular light weight.  Botched spot. Sin Cara gets the Flux Capacitor for the victory. Spectacular but he needs another finisher. No way he pulls that out on bigger opponents.

The Corre argues on Raw. Aren’t they on Smackdown? Oh the tag titles. Santino cuts a ridiculous promo that is better than anything anyone from the Corre did.

After fast forwarding, I promptly went to get another beer while the match happened. Cole is trying to be a heel but failing miserably. Matthews needs to take the bull by the horn and start calling these matches more often. Slater gets the pin he should have at Wrestlemania. JR attacks the Cole Mine so Swagger and King start their match a little early.

I like that JR & Cole have microphones. Matthews still needs to fill in some gaps but I’m guessing he was told to zip it. The whole picking on Oklahoma should insult Swagger. Lawler gets the cheap roll up after the distraction by JR. No surprise there. Matthews given the mic again. Cole hauls off on Swagger. Lawler gets the mic. What a dumb match. Why give Cole even a hint of hope? Just go two on one. The Undertaker/HHH match getting hype. I haven’t been able to rewatch it but it blew live. I don’t care what other people are saying. Until HHH tombstoned Taker, that match was lifeless. They really are out of ideas for Undertaker at Wrestlemania. HHH is the only big name they can go to again. No Edge, no one, not even God itself could convice me HHH was going to win. Edge and Cena talking.

Edge saying he needs to retire because of his MRIs. Wow, this sucks. Glad he could get out with his health intact. Just after he finally got rolling with his babyface persona. The wrestling business is worse because of this. Someone needs to get on Smackdown in a hurry with no Taker or Edge now.

Dolph getting a big hug along with all of the Canadians. Miz getting a lot of cheers. The gauntlet match starts next as Miz comes to ring side with Alex Riley. Orton and my boy Dolph Ziggler start the match. Ziggler gets help from the New Nexus to grab his victory. Very good idea even if it’s duh obvious.

Miz did more for R-Truth than R-Truth by telling him to have the street thug show up for this match. Ziggler is punking him out so far. Miz gets a big laugh from me when he says he isn’t a big talker. Miz is talking himself into mistakes. Ziggler gets pinned by Truth. Logical but I was hoping he’d pick up one more win before getting eliminated.

Morrison & Truth started their match during the commercial break. The Miz making fun of the shake makes me think of guys in MMA taping gloves. Would he not agree to that? I’ve seen it in title fights. And in boxing. Both of these guys getting a chance to shine. Morrison isn’t doing as well as he has been recently. I can’t stop staring at their black pants. The crowd is sitting on their hands. A mild boo from the crowd after Truth won again. Cena giving him too much recovery time.

Cena making this match. The males cheering for Truth are doing it for antagonizing purposes only. Truth kicks out after the top rope leg drop. What pictures does R-Truth have? I like him more than anyone on our site but he doesn’t desrve this. Lie Detector only gets a 2 for Truth. And Truth now somehow gets more hype since he gets asaulted too. Miz trying to weasel his way out of a number one contender. Of course he gets 2. I like the shove and smirk. Five-O time bitches! – Kevin

Frustrated that M-Dogg got knocked out of Tough Enough tonight. I am enjoying all the Wrestlemania audios both from the HOF and the actual review of the show.

I understood where they were coming from booting M-Dogg off but usually on shows like that, they’re the people who get the pass and not someone slacking off (Rima) or a guy who clearly isn’t going to make it (Whatever that dude’s name was). – K

I’ve been irritated by all of the dumb babyfaces losing lately because they get distracted by someone on the outside of the ring, but tonight it was just too much. Both Eve and Orton did it tonight (as well as Swagger on the heel side).

I agree with Kevin that there’s no way the Flux Capacitor should be Sin Cara’s finisher. Unfortunately, a lot of the best finishers for small guys like him are taken, like the Shooting Star Press and the 450. Hopefully he’ll come up with something from Lucha Libre that a lot of folks in the US haven’t seen before.

Edge will be missed, big time.

Re: Sin Cara… On an a$$hole note, if he can’t pull the move off the first time he does it on TV — whether it was his own fault for not being sure-footed, Primo’s fault for being in the wrong place, or no one’s fault and that’s just the way it goes, or if Primo just didn’t know what was coming, which I can’t believe is the case — he should cut it out right now. He spilled “15 feet” to the floor below, then bounced right back up like nothing happened and went to the finishing sequence again. That shit might cut it in Mexico, but not in WWE. Vince and Hunter had to be slapping their foreheads backstage. And I know the opponent only needs to do a somersault off the top rope, but do you really envision Sheamus doing that? -E
