#SippyTimeBeer Review – Drink Local, @Stone2Cbus & @StoneBrewingCo

20140607_122238– Earlier this week, I read an article on Esquire that “Drink Local” shouldn’t be a mantra because it takes away from what the real meaning of craft beer is. In their estimation, craft beer is good to great quality beer. I don’t disagree with this theory. I “Drink Local” because one will never know if anything is good or not if you don’t try it. Will you end up encountering some beers you don’t like? Yes you will. Now if you’re like one of the commenters who thinks that 90% of the craft beers he drinks are mediocre, I suggest stop trying new beers. I have a far greater success rate at finding beers I’d drink again than 10% of what I try just here in Columbus. I also don’t live by the mantra “Drink Local” either because I’ve posted many a beer review from brewers in California, Colorado, Massachusetts and everywhere in between without moving out of Columbus. I tend not to worry about quality because the best beers (or anythings for that matter) tend to survive. People spend their money on things they like. I know that the only way to keep a business open is to buy their product. I can type away all I want but my money spent will speak larger volumes than my fingers will. I think articles like these infuriate me because I can’t believe there are people out there so pig headed that they’d only “Drink Local” despite trying to enjoy great beer. Use some common sense and drink what you enjoy whether it’s brewed here, there or elsewhere.

– Columbus got some bad news this week, Stone Brewing Company will be building their new brewery in Richmond, VA instead of Cbus. Evidently their package of goodies from the city was better. In recognition of the efforts of @Stone2Cbus, Stone Brewing penned a nice runners up letter to say that they will be brewing a special beer that will just be sold in central Ohio. They claim it’s not a consolation prize but it is. I don’t have a problem with them choosing Richmond as I have no idea what the logistics are for their future plans.

I’d like to thank Stone2Cbus for their efforts too but I’ll give them even less, a shout on the website and on Twitter. Thanks for the follow too. It is nice that my older brother lives in Richmond so I will get a chance to go to Stone’s new brewery after it opens. I’m sure I’ll give the special brew a whirl but I may not buy too much Stone in the future. Don’t think your company is a runner up, there are just better beers out there. (Please note the sarcasm). – Kevin
