Jeremy’s One Paragraph Movie Review: Jailbait (2013)

jailbaitHow do you pass on a movie named “Jailbait?” I figured this would be a return of the 70’s sexploitation women in prison genre and while it attempts to do just that it also isn’t very good. When the poster/box cover spouts the “In The View Of Orange Is The New Black” you know what you are getting. You also realize this very soon in the movie when the leads implant scars are visible. No makeup or lighting adjustments to cover them. Oh and being clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman making her breasts even more beautiful but, yeah, you know what I am getting at. Anyway, the acting is on par with the budget and the plot, while simple, is so ridiculously over the top and underdeveloped it makes waiting around for the next pair of titties very difficult. Every women in prison trope is used in “Jailbait” including a heroine wrongfully imprisoned, an  evil, sexually abusive warden; rivalries between the black and white gangs;  rampant drug use that goes unnoticed even though it is in plain sight, shower fights and a lot of lesbian sex. Wait, did I enjoy this after all? This sounds like something that should be an incredible movie experience but it wasn’t. What it attempts to do in emulating a long past genre just didn’t work. The subject was treated much too seriously instead of gripping on to those tropes. Maybe a bit too campy would have helped but then who does campy on purpose? What a frustrating movie to sit through.  -Jeremy
