#SippyTimeBeer Review – @ActualBrewing, Cellar Dweller and @4StringBrewing

Actual IngenuityActual Brewing Co.Ingenuity – This beer is a Lemongrass Saison. I didn’t know about the lemongrass when I drank it but did notice a hint of spice. I would not have expected it from this Australian and Asian plant. After reading up on it, it’s citrus quality does make sense for a refreshing beer such as a saison. The low IBU (22)  helps to let the citrus shine through. It does have a coppery tint to it but it’s a golden ale in name. It’s low in ABV at 5.3% so it’s a good summer sipping beer even if summer is over. I have been tough on this company from Columbus but this beer won’t be on the list. It’s the best I have had from them yet.

Cellar Dweller CopperheadCellar DwellerCopperhead – They were on tap and in the local section at Zauber Brewing so I got it. I had no idea though that they are also a wine company called Valley Vineyards in Morrow, OH. If you have all of that cellar space, by all means use it to make as many types of alcohol as you can. Copperhead happens to be their flagship beer which is an American Pale Ale. It is tough to tell through the filter but the color is quite coppery. They don’t list which hops they use, but they do say to expect citrus notes which I got. At 37 IBU, it’s a little low on the hops but it comes through with the mellowness of a pale ale. The ABV is 5.8% so it’s not too heavy on alcohol which suited me just fine. Now let me go talk to the lady about going there so that she can taste wine and I can taste their beer.

Four String SaisonFour String Brewing Co.Saison – I bought this beer to take with me to Dayton for Father’s Day for The Lady’s father and her brother-in-law. Four String doesn’t make too many low IBU offerings but this one falls into that category at 20. That is perfect for the company and for a saison. I should mention that one reason it is out of the normal for their beers is the fact that it’s part of their Solo Series. This one happens to be #7 with #11 being the most recent. I have only gotten to try #9 which will be reviewed at a later date. The Saison was quite crisp and light which are both good qualities in this style. I was surprised to find out that it packs a decent punch at 6.2% ABV which is unusual for a lighter beer. I’ll take it though because this one was very good.

I know it’s another local list. Hopefully you’ve found a good one for yourself in your neck of the woods. Even if you haven’t, go out and find a good #SippyTimeBeer for the beginning of football season. – Kevin
