John Cena having neck surgery… like, right now!

You Can't C-3!

Everyone everywhere is reporting (you like what I did there?) that John Cena is currently undergoing neck surgery in Pittsburgh under the watchful knife of Dr. Joseph Maroon (University of Pittsburgh, Steelers doctor), who is not Dr. Lloyd Youngblood or Dr. James Andrews — so this had better go well, god dammit — but thankfully isn’t Dr. Cho, who did that hack job on Kurt Angle. Cena was quoted on WWE.com (via Prowrestling.net) as saying:

“I’m losing 20 percent of my strength per day. If I don’t do anything about it, the injury will end up rupturing and then the surgery will be more difficult.”

Looks like he didn’t wait for the disc to rupture, as word around the campfire is that Cena is likely having fusion surgery on his vertebrae, which would put him out of action for one year. I’ll probably blog about this later, but the moral of the story is, even the durable John Cena needs time off once in a while. Too bad it had to be forced upon him. -Eric
