TNA takes on Ohio Valley Wrestling as developmental territory; Mike Mondo may finally make the big-time!!

Yep, *that* OVW.

According to Prowrestling.net, TNA has adopted Ohio Valley Wrestling as a developmental territory, taking tomorrow’s stars and turning them into today’s food-stamp collectors. According to a press release, wait a minute, TNA sends out press releases? Since when does TNA have the savvy to buy a licensed version of Microsoft Word? I figured Jeremy Borash was still sending Morse code like he did as a DJ in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Anyway, Ohio Valley Wrestling, the former WWF/WWE developmental territory once known for being the breeding ground for future superstars like John Cena, Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar will surely now cough up inevitable wastes of space like That Guy With the Rat Tail, Two Fat Guys Acting As Jeff Jarrett’s Security, and The Slightly Taller But Embarrassingly Skinnier Matt Morgan-Alike. To call OVW a “breeding ground” when the WWE machine was behind it would be accurate; with TNA’s brain power, this is more like a puppy mill. Have you ever seen a retarded soft-coated wheaton terrier? It’s heart-breaking. Get ready for plenty of that, Thursday nights on Spike. -Eric

To be honest I don’t see TNA using OVW correctly. I think they’ll take students from Bully Ray’s school and stick them in OVW. It’ll be great that they have a developmental territory… but the bottom of the barrel TNA guys already get paid $12,000 a year.

Maybe they can cut their roster of 44 down to 35 by sending the following to OVW:
    – Jacquiline (to train guys)
    – D-Von (to train girls)
    – Murphey
    – Okatu (if he’s with the company)
    – Rosita
    – Alex Shelley (to bring OVW guys to the next level) (until Sabin returns) (but they should have him in X-Division)
    – Zima Ion
    – Eric Bischoff Jr (once he gets injured)
    – Abyss (big fish small pond)

That’s pretty much exactly what they need to do. Does OVW still have any sort of TV show? Because at least the people you listed above or whomever else TNA sends to OVW can stay “on TV” while they’re there. -E

According to Wikipedia >> OVW currently airs a 60-minute television program Saturdays on WOBZ-LP in London, Kentucky at 9:00 p.m., and in the Louisville area on WKYI at 1:00 p.m. OVW also has streaming video via their website ovwrestling.com, where new episodes are streamed every Monday following the previous Wednesday’s television taping. The television shows originate from the Davis Arena in Louisville

        >>> Speaking of the Davis Arena, I know that ROH will be filming from there soon if they haven’t already. Anyway. This is a much bigger upside for OVW than TNA.

Personally I think TNA should amp up Xplosion instead of sending guys to OVW. If they even do send guys to OVW. Amp up Xplosion because there is an exclusive match on Xplosion each week that lasts around 10 minutes… well once a month make Xplosion its own TV taping… with 7-9 matches. 2 matches for each Xplosion. Then the final match can be the non televised main event. Like Daniels vs AJ. RVD vs Joe. Kind of like sitting through TV tapings that no one will see you will at least get a good match on top. Comes out to a 2 hours of wrestling that gets dispursed over 4 one hour episodes 🙂
