Kevin’s Blog: Almost Live, Definitely Half Assed Review of Raw

I used this picture a while back. It's back because the Bruins are mauling the Canucks right now.

As is the case when the Stanley Cup Finals roll around, I have split attention during Raw. I’ll probably post the opening segment in between the first and second period then another segment during the next intermission. The only way I get out of this cycle is if Sean leaves. He’s from Boston. Wouldn’t you still keep watching this blowout (4-0) if you were on the ass kicking end?

The Miz is back to looking dapper. Miz cracking wise about Weiner. Miz having a good point about the Attitude Era stars but you aren’t drawing. Neither is Cena. Or at least not well enough. Stone Cold coming out. Man, they are dragging out the All Stars. Piper’s Pit with Miz & Riley. Why does the Miz have on sneakers though? Man, stay classy Miz. They are really trying to prop up the heels by having them go one on one with Stone Cold. They got no one to put people over than those retired. Pretty pathetic. Del Rio gets to beat Kane. Good for him.

The action got kicked off after a commercial.  Cole & Lawler bickering about Del Rio and Big Show’s auto damage is more interesting than this match. Not good news. Thank goodness Kane broke the hold, ahh, sneaky heel wants to break the elbow. Big Show makes the save but Kane backs him off. What is happening to Kane? He’s getting soft in his old age. No big surprise that Big Show and Del Rio are added to Capitol Punishment.

Sin Cara still gets the big entrance even though he’s the worst wrestler in the ring. Bryan comes in to sell because Zeke cant take the beating. Rhodes & DiBiase makes the save but get tossed. Sin Cara gets a cheap victory. I’m arguing with Sean about flashy moves between John Morrison and Sin Cara. He’s been over here too many weeks now. He kn0ws something about wrestling.

Hornswoggle is waiting for R Truth. Hilarious.  Truth better get shot in the nuts. He gets hit but Truth goes for the midget attack. Midget kick in the face. Well played Truth. John Morrison is the way Austin makes things right. Isn’t it a little early to blow this wad? Another midget kicking.

Santino gets to job to Sheamus. Awesome, a “We want Ryder” chant. Sheamus breaks out a Sharpshooter of sorts. Cool. Lawler corrects me and calls it a Cloverleaf.

Orton gets to speak. Orton can’t get no satisfaction unless Christian comes to the ring.  Just talk, that’s all baby. Orton admits to lying. Christian gets a new shirt for his heel turn. Christian knows about hard work and Orton doesn’t. Umm, OK. Orton taunts him with the Edge carry bit. Christian faking coming to the ring. Security saves Christian. I love in a bad way that the mystery Raw GM would be held libel for any harm done to him. Stripping the Championship stops Orton from attacking Christian. One way to keep them separated. Stone Cold finally pops up. Rey gets to job to Christian.

Sweet, Rey vs. Punk was added to Capitol Punishment. Seriously considering purchasing it.  I guess there almost needs to be some CM Punk inspired interference.

Christian gets DQed shortly after the commercial break. That’s another way not to make Rey look bad before taking on Punk. Rey takes out Punk with a cross body. Nexus shows up. Otunga & McGillicutty are dumb to stick around. It does keep them on TV. Ryan does the big damage. Christian with an extra Killswitch for more heeldom. Vickie interrupts a phone call by Austin. Dolph has to drop Vickie. Wow, they are serious about pushing him. Austin made the match earlier to make it a comedy bit. Damn it.

R Truth comes to the ring as Sean exits. He says “I can’t believe he kicked a midget”. Nice final words. Truth is bringing the fight to Morrison.  Truth finds a laid out Morrison. I’m glad the WWE made it too early for this match up. Truth rams Morrison. Him and Christian are digging the extra pain these days to lock in their turns.

My boy gets a video package. He’s got to win this match up now, right? Oh, Swagger is teaming with him. I FF through the intros (Not normally a part of my viewing but it is way too late after watching way too much of that blow out.)  Dolph starts against Kofi. I just noticed the “Little Jimmy” group of signs. Nice work. Bourne always looks sharp. Kofi Trouble in Paradise’s Swagger to allow Bourne to get Air Bourne. Booker really puts it over.

Roddy gets a good response as always. Hey, no more old timers yet. I expected maybe Bret Hart, HBK, someone like that. I didn’t check for spoilers. Miz gets straight to work. I like the angle they’re using. Riley still going with the relaxed suit look. Riley holding up his end of the bargain so far. Piper reaches to get in his tag line. Oh boy, Piper vs. Miz with Riley as guest referee.

Piper is in good shape considering what he’s gone through. Piper gets the cheap win. No surprise there. They (Should have mentioned it was Miz & Riley) made me uncomfortable since they gave each other bedroom eyes.

KK & the Bellas get a Price Is Right segment. Yeah. (That’s sarcasm.) I like the Stun Cena sign. Tamina didn’t get the memo that she needed to wear black. The face Divas prefer pink but are a mixed bag. The Divas brawl so that KK can get the win and they have some “action.” Lawler really mailed in his excitement about the match. The faces do a Rockettes routine. Michael Cole is right, he should barf. Andy gets to crack a beer with Steve. Punk gets Andy to leave. I love him (Punk) doing the What gimmick. Awesome segment.

Austin has a big announcement. No Zach Ryder yet. Austin announces another 3 hour show. Power of the people next week. Great, we get sheep guided shows next week. Austin chases away Cole. He douses the computer and will definitely run over it with the ATV in the near future. Why am I torturing myself with another fake Obama press conference? Might have been the worst of the lot.

No Zach Ryder. That’s got to be discouraging. Good back and forth by the fans. Punks gets control before the commercial break.

CM Punk pulls out the abdominal stretch. Punk does another Savage tribute with the double axe handle and point on top of the ropes. I should mention (this match is good so far) that I figured Ryder would job to someone. That’s how the WWE treats home comings. Booker really blowing Punk. Truth starts walking through the crowd. Punk gets the win since Little Jimmy was going to have water splashed in his face by Truth. R gets far less support than Cena just sucking. This match better not be the main event of the pay per view. Orton & Christian have been money in the ring. They better be last. -Kevin

Morning After: I spent a second week critiquing clothes. I think I need to bring that to make up for my lack of Art of Wrestling columns. I won’t be as comprehensive but I think that part of this blog is here to stay. I also added some liner notes in italics to clarify some points I thought were too vague even for people who watched the show.

The cross over was too soon for me.  Especially if they do it again for next week’s three hour show.  They also could have used having a couple of more living legends come around.  I mentioned Bret Hart and HBK but they could have trotted out Sargeant Slaughter, Iron Shiek, you name them. It would have helped theme the All Stars differently than next week’s show. I think they could have used the graphics more from the game too.  It was sweet to see it for Punk vs. Cena but they used it very sparingly aside from that match up.
